Our sanctuary is a welcoming space where asylum seekers and refugees can learn, grow, and feel supported. Through English classes, computer skills training, and study support for middle and high school students, we provide practical tools for everyday life while nurturing confidence and independence. Together, these classes help individuals and families build brighter futures in a safe and encouraging environment.
• English Classes
We offer English (ESOL) classes to help refugees and asylum seekers build the skills they need for everyday life in the UK. Whether they are just starting to learn English or want to improve what they already know, our classes are open, supportive, and adapted to different levels.
We currently run English lessons at three levels, from beginner to more advanced, with small groups and experienced volunteer tutors. Lessons focus on practical language and numeracy skills — such as speaking with doctors, reading letters, using transport, budgeting, and filling in forms. After 6 months in the UK, people can apply to continue their learning in a local college, where they can extend their learning from beginner up to GCSE levels. Our teachers continue to support people through their college courses.
Learning in a friendly environment not only improves confidence but also helps people connect with others and feel more independent. Many of our learners go on to use their skills to study further, apply for work, or support their children at school.
We welcome new learners throughout the year!
